That's absurd. Humans lived all over the planet for millions of years. Most land can sustain very rich life, indefinitely. Hunter-gatherers enjoyed lives of ease, and invariably described the land they lived in as a paradise that provided everything they needed in abundance.

Living on the land is not difficult; living next to a hostile civilization, now that's the part that's difficult.

What a great article! Just goes to show ya, just how far we have fallen from "grace". It was hard for the mountain man to eek out a living, to duplicate the same lifestyle today would be like climbing Mount Everst. Most land cannot substain life, not very long, not very far, for not many people.........................................

[...] In 1620, the crew of the Mayflower noted "every day saw whales plying hard by us; of which, in that place, if we had instruments and means to take them we might have made a very rich return."
