If someone tells you that they can give you the "true story" here, they're either lying, or a fool. I can't tell you objective truth about it, I can only tell you what we took away from it. That's why we offered it as it happened, rather than our interpretation of it: so that you might be able to learn from it whatever lesson it might have for you. I only know the lesson it had for me.

Hate to add fuel to the lectin fire but this was too good to keep to myself.
Hurrah for diarrhea!

TV diet plan causes mass food poisoning

A major Japanese TV network has apologised to almost 160 people who were struck with vomiting and diarrhoea after following a weight-loss plan it broadcast.

The Japanese Government says 30 of the 158 people who got food poisoning had been hospitalised but are recovering.

The Tokyo Broadcasting System's May 6 show introduced a diet of rice mixed with white kidney beans that had been roasted for about three minutes and ground into powder.

"We have received many complaints from different parts of the country about symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea as a result," the network said on its website.

"We deeply apologise to all the people concerned, including people whose condition was affected."

The network is urging viewers not to follow the diet and says white kidney beans are safe to eat if cooked according to usual recipes.

The food poisoning was caused by lectin, a protein in the beans which rendered them toxic if not sufficiently heated.

Wow, Kurt, you really give me much too much credit! I'm glad my work inspired you, though. You should plan on bringing your tribe up to the Mountain Festival in August--the Appalachian Confederation could use a second tribe!

Jason,

When you get a break you might want to look at a comment I put on your appalachian.wikispaces.com home page and at my website.

Anthropik has been not just food for thought, but a feast. I just hope my work does justice by yours.

We been workin' our tails off is what we been up to. But there's a lot of work to be done before it goes primetime. There are several major things that are going live on Memorial Day--we've been pulling all nighters pretty much all month to make sure they go up on time.
